The Kristin Kay Smith Memorial Fund
To sponsor children with cancer or other life-threatening illness to attend events in the performing arts and to benefit children interested in the arts who are grieving the death of a parent or sibling and need an outlet for their grief.
Background
After the death of her father, at the age of five, Kristin became very active in the performing arts. Besides being involved with Children to Children, a local children’s grief support group, the performing arts became an important outlet for her grief. Kristin performed vocal, dance and instrumental with Kids Unlimited, a local children’s performing group, for nine years and also became a teacher and choreographer. She studied and competed in dance with many local studios since she was four years old. Kristin studied percussion from Brian Harris for several years, played in the Manzanita Elementary School and then Orange Grove Middle School bands and was especially fond of the marimba. She played Tiny Tim in the Gaslight Theatre’s production of A Christmas Carol, danced as an Angel in Ballet Arizona’s Nutcracker and sang in the children’s choir for Victory Production’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. You may have spotted her in brochures or television commercials for the Tucson Children’s Museum and Kidline. Kristin’s final performance took place on December 28, 2000 at Old Tucson Studios with Kids Unlimited.
