Krissy's 17th Birthday (Original poster: Francine Starke) October 2, 2003

Last year, there was a celebration of Krissy’s 16th birthday at Taryn’s house. It was a great idea and everyone had a great time just getting together and remembering Krissy. We all thought back on the happy memories we had of her; no one cried. I know she was right there with us, making sure no one was sad. It was wonderful.

I’m not sure if there was a similair get-together today to celebrate Krissy’s 17th birthday, because I now live in Florida. If there was one, I’m sorry I missed it, but I was thinking about Krissy, Taryn, Cheyenne, Amber, and all of the people who’s lives Krissy touched all day. I hope they all know that I was there, in spirit. 🙂

Thoughts of family (Original poster: Amy Oldham)

I just finished a class for my teaching certification renewal today. I had to design a curriculum unit for gifted students. I decided to plan a Unit on Medieval times that I could use in homeschool. One of the lessons involves having the students learn to play chess. As I contemplated the game of chess(which I have very little skill in playing), I remembered seeing Kristin playing with C.R. on Christmas 2000. I know he enjoyed having an up and coming challenging opponent. Wow, Kristin was multi-talented!

Amber and Chey, keep up the hard work in school. Know that your family is very proud of you in many ways. Please remember that we are praying for you often too!

Taryn, our prayers are with you today too. Abby, Josiah and Daniel (mostly Abby and Josiah) had a fun time at breakfast discussing the significance of today. They prayed a very sweet prayer.

Much love,
Amy & Co.

I didn’t know Kristin for very long, but in the short time I knew her we got very close. I think of her quite often and actually wrote about her for my school essay. I will always remember the time I spent with her at camp. We stayed up after “lights-out” and wrote notes and giggled for hours. I still have some of the notes we wrote. They were mostly about books. Even now when I read a really good book, I think of her and wonder if she would have enjoyed it too. She was an amazing friend and I would never be able to fully elucidate to anyone how much I truly miss her. So today on her birthday, I think of her and remember what a great friend she was.

I also am praying for Taryn and family. I pray that your lives are blossoming and I especially think about you today. I love you all.

To Taryn, Family and all who love Kristin,

Thinking of you all today as we remember Kristin and the sweetness of what she brings to each life that she continues to touch. She is missed deeply and treasured in our hearts. May God continue to comfort you in the heartache of your loss. A special prayer and blessing to Taryn, Rich and Virginia as you touch my life. Love you all.

I have been thinking about you a lot today. I miss you so much. I can’t stop thinking about you when we sing Autumn Leaves in K*. I remember when you used to let me play with all of your My Little Ponies. I got some from Gabby for my birthday and I thought of you then, too. Happy Birthday. I wish you were here. I will love you for forever, Kiki!
Love,
Lyric

I’ve been on this site a few times in the past 24 hours, wishing I could think of something profound to say to honor Kristin’s birthday. Fearing that it won’t come to me before the end of the day, I just want to say “I love you” to Kristin, the Smith family, and all who continue to feel her loss.

To Stephanie T. (9/14 post)…never feel like you need to apologize for the length of your note. Please know that all of your memories and comments are very precious to the members of Kristin’s family. Thanks!

And to Valerie R. (8/28 post)…God continues to bless your family! Glad to hear from you.

Taryn, we are thinking a lot about Kristin. As I was reading “Our Daily Bread,” I came across this verse that really spoke to me and I wanted to share it.

We have been through the valley of weeping,

The valley of sorrow and pain;

But the God of all comfort was with us,

At hand to uphold and sustain. –Anon.

The verse given to read was 2 Corinthians 1:3-11:
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort.

We love you all.

Hello Taryn,
I heard Kristin would have had a birthday real soon. I just wanted to let you know that you had one special daughter and we were so blessed to know her. Getting to know her at camp was a treat for myself and all the youth that year. We love you and are still praying for you.
